Warboys Commemorates the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with Beacon Lighting Ceremony

Join us on Wednesday, 8th May 2025, as Warboys Parish Council marks the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a special Celebratory & Remembrance Beacon Lighting at St. Mary Magdalene Church.
This event will be a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made during World War II and to honour those who fought for our freedom. The evening will begin with a service led by Rector Garry Dawson-Jones at 8:00 PM, bringing the community together in remembrance. Following the service, attendees are invited to stay for refreshments and fellowship, providing an opportunity to share stories, memories, and gratitude.
At 9:30 PM, the Warboys Beacon will be lit outside the church on the lawn, coinciding with national celebrations taking place across the country. Beacons were a symbol of hope and resilience during wartime, and this act of remembrance will serve as a powerful tribute to those who lived, fought, and endured during this pivotal moment in history.
Our D-Day Commemoration last year was a deeply moving tribute, and we hope this year’s VE Day event will once again bring the community together to honour our shared history.
