Biodiversity Improvements Coming to Onyett’s Field

Last modified date

On the beautiful, crisp, and sunny morning of 30th January, the Climate & Environment Lead, Chair of the Leisure Committee, and Onyett’s Field Lead met with the HDC Operations team at Onyett’s Field to discuss the exciting biodiversity improvements planned for the area.

Thanks to the successful bid for the 2024 Biodiversity For All grant, these enhancements will help create a richer and more diverse habitat for local wildlife. The plans include planting a variety of native bushes, shrubs, and trees, as well as enhancing the wildflower areas to provide better support for pollinators and other species.

Last year, a rare ancient woodland buttercup was discovered thriving in the area, highlighting the ecological importance of Onyett’s Field. With these upcoming improvements, we hope to further support its growth and ensure that the natural beauty of this space continues to flourish for years to come.

Work is set to begin once the weather starts to warm up, and we look forward to seeing these biodiversity enhancements take shape!
