Successful Funding Bid for New Parish Centre Build
Providing residents with a new Parish Centre has been a priority for Members and residents for several years. Thanks to sound financial management, successful fundraising, and a slew of achieved grant funding applications, the Parish reserves have grown to £1.2m, with many community groups aiding in this effort.
In 2020, the Parish Council was prepared to begin construction on the new centre. However, on 23rd March of that year, our country went into lockdown due to Covid, a pandemic that no one could have ever predicted. In a variety of ways, the pandemic continues to cascade its impact on communities, any residents that have carried out recent home improvements will be aware how the cost of building materials has escalated.
The rising costs of building the New Parish Centre required the Council to apply for an additional £450k in funding. We’re pleased to announce that our bid was successful, and we can now proceed with constructing the eagerly awaited modern facilities.
We’d like to express our gratitude to all those who participated in the public consultation survey conducted in October 2023. An overwhelming majority were in favour of our new development, and residents were willing to accept a rise in precept to cover the costs.
We understand that some residents may be concerned about the increase in living costs, including an increase in Council Tax. If think you may need support, Huntingdon District Council has more information on how you may be eligible to claim for assistance here: Council Tax Support – Huntingdonshire.gov.uk.
All residents and interested parties are invited to come and view the plans for the new Parish Centre on 12th January 2024 at the existing Parish Centre. Members of the Council and project team will be there to answer any of your questions.
